The Fallen: The Rise of Vashon Book Review
About the Book: Vashon is a young man unlike any other. His best friend is a werewolf by the name of Black Fang. The love of his life is an Oracle by the name of Oshanti, whose stepmother so happens to be a thousand-year-old vampire by the name of Ambrosia. Through his journeys, he has also been accompanied by an ogre, an elf, a goblin, and a most powerful wizard as they try to rid the streets of the dark city of Cerberus of the deadly drug known as RED.
Will they be successful? Find out in R.K. Kalid’s THE FALLEN: THE RISE OF VASHON.
Our Take: We spend a lot of time flipping through and reading books here at the Legion. Typically they're from the major publishing houses. We often will go ahead and take on titles from the smaller publishers, because we love to support the 'little guy'. The internet has brought on the huge benefit of self-publication. We felt that its time to give some credit to authors of all types, even those that choose not to sign with a major publisher. Everyone from LuLu to Amazon.com offers self-publication packages these days. Today we're going to look at a self-published novel titled 'The Fallen: The Rise of Vashon' by R.K. Kalid.
I'm not going to delve too deeply into the storyline here, because I don't want to ruin things for the readers, but Vashon is a great new addition to the fantasy realm. Kalid manages to fit every imaginable ficitional creature into this new novel and it just works. The writing flows well and the story is very creative. You can really feel Kalid's fantasy influences without feeling that you're re-reading material you've heard before. This novel surprised me, because its truly well put together and a ton of fun.
Overall, this is a great first effort. Its always fun to read a new fantasy tale and this one is full of creativity and passion. We look forward to reading the next book in the series. Support a self-published author and check out the links below!
